Forest Establishment by Independent Forestry Services

Experienced in all aspects of forest creation, the Independent Forestry Services' team manages much of the 15,000 hectares of forest established under their direction. This includes forests where clients carry out their own follow-up management or who have contacted IFS at the appropriate time.
IFS managed the planting of over 2,350,000 seedlings in the 2007 planting year. IFS are justly proud of their quality and logistical ability for large-scale forestry projects.

Requirements of Forest Establishment

Establishment of first-rate forests needs careful planning by experienced Independent Forestry Services' staff before land purchase and/or land preparation begins and includes:

• Choice of the most suitable machinery, tools and methods of preparation.
• Thorough examination of terrain, existing vegetation and property access.
• A species appropriate to the site's overall environmental conditions, including soil types and annual weather conditions.

Once the client and IFS management are satisfied these conditions are met, IFS source the best planting stock, judged on pedigree, overall size, root/shoot ratios, apparent vigour, price and appropriateness for the site in question.
